American Made ATVs: Brands in The United States That Manufacture ATVs

american made ATVs

It’s not easy to find things that are made in America these days.

And that’s true for just about everything—including all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). So if you’re looking to buy American made ATVs, you’re in something of a bind. The unfortunate fact is, there are fewer and fewer US companies that make ATVs.

The problem is, there aren’t many American ATV manufacturers that are entirely based in the United States. Oftentimes, “Made in the USA” will simply mean “assembled in the USA,” with the parts shipped in from overseas.

Still, there are several American ATV brands that do most of their manufacturing stateside. Let’s take a look at who they are and some of the best ATVs they manufacture.

1. Polaris

Polaris is a major ATV manufacturer, and is based in Medina, Minnesota.

Founded in 1954, in Roseau, MN, Polaris has been producing ATVs, motorcycles, and snowmobiles for a long time. The company has engineering and vehicle assembly facilities in Osceola, Wisconsin and Spirit Lake, Iowa—though some of its assembly locations have been moved to Mexico as well.

Still, as far as American made ATVs go, Polaris is one of the top brands.

Sportsman XP 1000

The Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 stands out as one of the brand’s top ATVs. It comes with all the features standard to Polaris’ ATVs, plus a few extras. These include a four-stroke two-cylinder engine, power steering, and a towing capacity of up to 1,500 pounds (680 kilograms).

Sportsman Touring 850

The Sportsman Touring 850 packs all the punch of a single-seater model, but has the capacity for two riders. Plus, it features all-wheel drive, digital instrumentation, and up to eight gallons of sealed storage space.

Scrambler 850

The Scrambler 850 is part of Polaris’ Sport ATV lineup. It’s built for power and performance, with an 850-cc, four-stroke, two-cylinder engine and CVT transmission. All-wheel drive is standard, and like the XP 1000, the Sportsman 850 is rated for towing up to 1,500 pounds (680 kilograms).

Phoenix 200

The Polaris Phoenix 200 is an ATV designed for teenagers (14+) to enjoy with parental supervision. Its design is somewhat more stripped down than the above models, but for all that, it’s still quite a peppy and powerful little all-terrain vehicle.

It comes with a single-cylinder engine, two-wheel drive, and an automatic transmission. Plus, it features a speed limiter, so parents can rein in their little speed demon’s excessive need for speed.

Outlaw 70 EFI

Finally, Polaris’ Outlaw 70 EFI is designed for smaller children to enjoy. It’s the smallest ATV in the company’s lineup, and it also features the speed limiter, just like the Phoenix 200.

It comes with a 70-cc, single-cylinder engine, a CVT transmission, and is rear-wheel drive.

2. Arctic Cat

Arctic Cat is another Minnesota-based American ATV manufacturer.

Founded in 1960, Arctic Cat is still headquartered in Thief River Falls, MN. Now affiliated with Textron, Inc., Arctic Cat is still producing quality ATVs and snowmobiles at their assembly plant in Thief River Falls.

Alterra 300

The single-rider Alterra 300 is a fantastic little machine with a good reputation. It’s a mid-sized ATV, and packs plenty of power and storage capacity.

It features a powerful 300 class gas engine, a 500-pound (230-kilogram) towing ability, and an automatic CVT transmission.

Alterra 600 XT

The Alterra 600 XT is a powerful ATV that can just about get you wherever you need to go. It comes standard with a 600-cc engine, and 300 pounds (136 kilograms) of cargo capacity so you can carry all of your gear with you in the field.

3. ODES

ODES Powersports was formerly ODES Industries, in Riverside, California.

It was originally an Asian company, but it’s now located in Garland, Texas. Now ODES churns out ATVs made in America, from its 330,000-square-foot manufacturing facility.

Saber 400

The Saber 400 is one powerful little ATV. It features a powerful EFI four-stroke engine, as well as on-demand 4WD. It’s also rated for a towing capacity of 800 pounds (362 kilograms).

Saber 750

If you’re looking for an upgrade, the Saber 750 is one of the best American made ATVs out there. Its 45-horsepower, four-stroke engine can plow through rugged terrain, all while the powerful suspension keeps you comfortable.

4. American Landmaster

With American Landmaster, the name pretty much says it all.

Based in Roseland, Louisiana, the company makes a point of emphasizing its American-made vehicles. And not only does it manufacture vehicles in the US, but it tries to source US suppliers for its vehicle components.

These include Kohler, CVTech CVTs, Schaffer transaxles, and much else. Of all the American manufacturers we’ve highlighted (though it’s more of a side-by-side than an ATV manufacturer), American Landmaster is about as American as it gets.

L3

The L3 is really a light-duty UTV. But it’s a very easy-to-use and capable machine, which makes it great for any ATV activities you’re interested in. Plus, it has a powerful engine, and a towing capacity of up to 1,100 pounds (500 kilograms).

L4

The American Landmaster L4 is another powerful 4×2 UTV. It has the power and the capability to conquer rough terrain, and it packs a serious punch with a large engine and a towing capacity of 1,300 pounds (590 kilograms).
