1. San Lorenzo Canyon
If you’re looking for an easy ride, you can check out this loop trail that is a little less than 2 miles long. Located near Polvadera, this is an excellent trail for people of all different skill levels. Accessible all year round, this beautiful canyon area has amazing geological features and some cold springs.
For most of the ride, the trails are gravel and sand except for a couple of rocky areas. If you’re looking to make this trail a little more exciting, you can climb out of the box canyon at the end and go cross-country. You’ll want to keep in mind, though, that north of this area is off-limits because it is a wildlife refuge.
You will want to bring a touch satellite device or a GPS as there is no reception out here. It’s also important to note that BLM doesn’t provide any services.
2. Caja del Rio OHV Trail
This is a moderately traffic nearly 20 mile Loop Trl. near Santa Fe. If you are looking for the opportunity to see some wildlife, this is a great trail to check out.
The trail is mostly flat, rocky, bumpy, and rutty. You will find that it becomes a more interesting trail towards the loop at the end where there are gullies and some rocky hills.
3. Cedro Peak OHV Trail
This point to point trail is located near Tijeras. A little less than 8 miles long, this trail is considered to be of moderate difficulty.
With several challenging areas, this very rocky ride can provide great fun. Many people suggest that if you are a beginner rider looking to challenge your skills, this is a great trail to check out.
4. Goose Lake OHV Trail
If you are looking for the best UTV trails in Red River, New Mexico, check out Goose Lake.
Considered to be of moderate difficulty, this out and back trail is a little under 14 miles long. You’ll get to travel through narrow trails and enjoy a beautiful lake. Not for the faint of heart, this is an adventurous trail that leads the past a little miner town on the way up.
You’ll be rewarded at the end with breathtaking views and maybe even the opportunity to spot some wildlife.
5. Quebradas Back Country OHV Route
Located near Lemitar, this 25-mile point to point trail is moderately difficult and offers beautiful scenic views.
While the main part of the trail is considered easy, there are a number of side trails that you can take where there are much more challenging opportunities.
6. Cabezon and La Ventana OHV Route
Near Jemez Pueblo, this loop trail is nearly 100 miles long. Considered to be an easy trail, you’ll want to check this one out if you’re looking for a long journey through the desert.

7. Elk Mountain
Located near Tererro, this out and back trail is nearly 30 miles long. Good for all skill levels, you’ll have the opportunity to see wildlife and appreciate the beauty of New Mexico.
8. Jemez Mountains Trail
This nearly 20 mile outback trail is near Jemez Pueblo. Accessible year-round, this is a great place to be wildlife.
9. Westerly Loop
This loop trail is a little over 4 miles long and is considered to be moderately difficult. Accessible year-round, this trail is located near Placitas.
It’s recommended that you bring an off-line map, as this trail is not marked particularly well. The first part of the trail that is north of the power lines is on a very steep slope and is narrow and steep. The best direction to write it and is in a northerly direction.
10. Rio Puerco OHV Loop
Located near Rio Rancho, this loop trail is a little under 20 miles long. The trail is very sandy and it’s important to bring everything you need with you. You shouldn’t expect to get any cell-service out here.
