ATVs With a Dump Bed and Cargo Boxes: 5 Popular Models

atvs with dump bed

In the past, ATVs have been used primarily for sport. They were lightweight, nimble, and meant for speed on the trail. If you wanted an off-road vehicle with a dump bed, you would’ve needed a UTV. But with the growing demand for utility vehicles, ATVs are taking on a new look. You can find ATVs with dump bed functionality, as long as you’re okay with a 6×6, that is, an ATV with six wheels instead of four.

The extra set of rear wheels provides the space and support for a dumb bed or a cargo box.

So what ATV brands produce 6×6 ATVs with cargo boxes and beds? THere’s only a handful on the market currently. Keep reading to figure which ATVs will offer you the most utility.

1. Polaris Sportsman 6×6 570

If you’re in the market for a new off-road vehicle then you are probably aware of the Polaris brand. They are one of the most popular manufacturers of UTVs and ATVs, for both sport and utility.

As you can expect, they also produce one of the few reliable, functional, and powerful 6×6 ATVs on the market. The Polaris Sportsman 6×6 570 relies on six wheels, which enables the rear dump box to carry up to 800 lbs (362 kg).

The total payload of this workhorse is 1,115 lbs (505 kg) along with a towing capacity of 1,500 lbs (680 kg). Basically, you can move anything that you need to.

The ATV features on the Sportsman 6×6 don’t stop there, though. It also comes with a six-gallon storage compartment built into the front of the ATV.

It’s got a 6.7-gallon fuel tank, making this a great ATV for working hard all day long. And it’s capable of carrying two passengers.

While driving over rough terrain, you’ll appreciate the 9.5″ of rear suspension travel along with 11.5″ ground clearance. And the 44 HP ProStar engine using Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) will run just as well in the dead of winter as it will in the heat of summer.

2. Can-Am Outlander Max 6×6 DPS 450

The Can-Am Outlander 6×6 comes in a few different models, depending on your budget and desired features. The DPS 450 is the entry model, starting at around $11,000.

It sports a 450, 32hp Rotax single-cylinder, a liquid-cooled engine capable of getting you over or through any type of terrain. And these ATVs also utilize EFI to ensure that they can be used at any temperature or altitude.

The DPS 450 features an industry-leading 1,650 lb (748 kg) towing capacity. And while it doesn’t feature a proper dump bed, its front, and extended rear racks can carry a combined 470 lbs (163 kg). There’s also a three-gallon, sealed storage compartment in the rear, giving you water-resistant protection for smaller items.

A 5.4-gallon fuel tank gives you plenty of time to work before refueling. And this vehicle is designed to carry a second passenger in the rear. Proper footholds and handles make for an easy ride.

You’ll also get a quick-release sway bar for improved handling and comfort when carrying heavy loads. But if driving without weight, taking it off is fast and easy.

3. Can-Am Outlander Max 6×6 DPS 650

The Can-Am Outlander Max 6×6 DPS 650 is the next model up in the Can-Am 6×6 family. It shares a lot of the same features as the DPS 450, but this model has a powerful 62 hp, Rotax 649.6 cc V-twin, liquid-cooled engine for more climbing and carrying power.

The DPS 650 also features a dual-level cargo box, which can carry upwards of 800 lbs (362 kg). It features sidewalls and a tailgate, making this a proper ATV bed. While ATV bed sizes are still quite small, they can hold a ton of weight.

This ATV also has a 1,650 lb (750 kg) towing capacity. It stays safe thanks to a central skid plate. And an anti-theft system using the RF Digitally Encoded Security System (D.E.S.S.) will ensure it’s never taken from you.

4. Can-Am Outlander 6×6 XT 1000

Last up in the Can-Am lineup is the Outlander Max 6×6 XT 1000. This model is very similar to the DPS 650, but instead rocks an 82hp Rotax V-twin, liquid-cooled engine for maximum power output.

It also features a heavy-duty front bumper to keep your ride safe in the toughest conditions. And it comes with a 3,500 lb (680 kg) winch.

It’s also capable of towing 1,650 lbs (750 kg) and features the same dual-level cargo bed capable of holding up to 800 lbs (362 kg).

If you want the reliability that comes with Can-Am, along with their most powerful 6×6 model with maximum cargo space, then this is the ATV for you.

5. Argo Frontier Series 6×6

Looking for something a little different? The Argo Frontier Series 6×6 is less about sport and far more about function. In fact, this ATV looks like it belongs on the scene of a movie, but it will work just as well on your property thanks to an incredible amount of ATV functionality.

It’s actually an amphibious off-road vehicle. That means that yes, you can actually float across that lake or pond on your property, rather than having to go all the way around it.

You can use these neat little vehicles to tow up to 1,200 lbs (544 kg). On land, you can carry up to four passengers, while you should have a max of two when floating. The front seat is a bench seat, meaning that the driver and passenger can sit side-by-side.

The low-pressure, 24″ tires work to push you forward on land and propel you through the water. And they give you the most possible traction in any terrain, including mud and snow.

An Argo winch mount is included, allowing you to add a 3,500 lb (1587 kg) winch if you need one. And the cargo bed is large enough to carry two passengers, meaning it can also carry a hefty load of gear, too.

ATVs with Dump Bed; Small Package, Large Carrying Capacity

As you can see, it is possible to find ATVs with dump bed functionality. While not as plentiful as UTVs with a dump bed, they are still available by some of the top ATV manufacturers.

With an ATV, you get the benefit of fitting into smaller spaces. But with a large cargo box, you get to carry a ton of gear and supplies while doing so.

If you aren’t confident you’d like to choose an ATV, take a look at some of the best UTVs with cargo space and towing capacity.
